Eternal WPF monument in Leeds

Monday, 19 June, 2017

On Friday, 28th April 2017, Garforth, Leeds, lit and installed the first eternal public World Peace Flame in England.

The event was attended by over 100 people including Garforth in Bloom, Councillors Mark Dobson and Sarah Field and The Garforth and District Lions, who all funded and supported the project. The local MP also attended, along with many local people.

The lighting of the flame took place in the local Miner's Welfare Hall and the attendees had a walk of peace to the Garforth in Bloom Diamond Jubilee Garden, where a quote from Mahatma Gandhi was read and everyone dedicated a minute’s silence for Peace and the W.P.F was placed in its new structure. So Garforth and its community is embracing this precious flame of peace with great appreciation and hopes of inspiring other towns, villages and cities.
