Peace pack for primary schools in UK
Wednesday, 11 April, 2012
The World Peace Flame Education Package has been launched in the UK.
On Friday 11th May the World Peace Flame was formally presented to the headmaster, staff and children of Ysgol y Gelli in Caernarfon, N. Wales, which becomes the first school in Britain to begin working with the new WPF education package 'Peace in your hands'. The pupils had already heard that the flame was coming to their school and there was a buzz of excitement from the 204 children as the lamp was carried into morning assembly. They listened with enthusiasm to the presentation and were eager to answer questions and contribute their ideas about peace.
The teachers are keen to begin following the lesson suggestions. There are many exciting assignments for the children to do, either together or in groups, so it is a brilliant way for teachers and pupils to have fun together while learning to be peacemakers.
In September 2012 the World Peace Flame & the education package will be passed to another Welsh school, which is already preparing for their arrival. Watch this space...
In various parts of the UK several other people have expressed an interest in taking the packs to their local schools. For info about the pack and how to bring it into schools, please contact Sheila Roberts (firstname.lastname@example.org).
